Shipwrecked at Heaven’s Doorstep

The poets stared at the sun till they went blind

Astronauts studied film till they could capture the moon on land

Students fought till they could be the teachers

Mothers fucked till their kids grew older

Fathers worked till they could afford a casket

Brothers followed fathers till that didn’t pay out

Lovers read books on love written by divorcees

Children watched their parents fight to learn how to…well, fight of course

Sisters saw their mother behavior to learn how to be shallow

Brothers observed their fathers to better become an asshole

Grandparents were racist to show us what not to do

I stared at the sun just long enough to recognize you

And in this whole world of chaos,

I’ll be the peace and you can be the love that makes this old bastard move.
